Say Yes to Cope Everyday

If you look at the trajectory of a human’s life course and the sequence of events that result in major change, you’ll find that a person has overcome true transformation not because of anything major happening at once, but due to changes in their everyday choices and habits. Human beings are profound in their ability to adapt and change over time. People have overcome obstacles that they did not think they would be able to get themselves out of by committing to habits and routines on a daily basis. Even in my own journey, I can honestly share that there were days I wanted to give up on the process of becoming a therapist or starting my own business. There were days when I did not feel like it, or I thought I was not good enough. There were times when I would cry about the flaws in my life, or because of my insecurities, or because I thought I was fat. I know many people can relate.

The thing is, though, that I made the decision to work on my mental health everyday, by engaging in self-study, reflection, and learning to ride the wave of my emotions. I learned to accept, write down, and sit with insecurities and fears. I learned to not let those fears stop me from moving forward, even when they popped up, again and again. I learned to commit to practices such as writing morning affirmations, breathing for 2-3 minutes in the morning, writing down my daily goals and then taking action to tackle those goals throughout the day. I did that every single day until it became a habit to commit to my goals and truly ride the waves of life.

What I’m trying to say is that everyday is a chance to start again. Martha Beck says that every day brings new choices.

Every day matters. It’s the habits and actions that you take everyday that will build the greatest version of yourself. It is in every day that you can, bit by bit, become better and better, until you can barely recognize the person you were in the past. Always remember that every day matters.

How to practice: Let’s start small. After reading this, remind yourself to wake up tomorrow with a different attitude. Before checking your phone in the morning, choose to think to yourself, “Thank you for this day. Today is going to be a good day. Today I am safe. Today I am okay.” Practice every day, and see where this practice takes you.
